A self developing instant photographic image - a Polaroid - apart from some exceptions is the only medium which actually produces original photographs. There is no negative and the image is unique. Most photographers use Polaroids to take cheap test shots. The actual image is generated with professional large-format cameras and high-quality film material. But soon photographers learned to appreciate the special options of Polaroids. This development culminated in the evolution of a completely independent artistic medium which now finds adequate appreciation.
